Describe it. Thin Cad builds it.
Type what you need in plain language and watch the model or drawing appear in the window, as real, editable features.
Desktop app. Connects to an AI agent or model you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Ollama on your own computer.
Four documents, one workflow
On the Home page, choose New Part, New Sheet Metal, New Assembly or New Drawing.
Build parts from a feature history
Start a sketch on a plane or a flat face, dimension it and finish it. Then extrude or revolve it into a solid. Every step stays editable in the History bar.
- Dimensions take expressions and named parameters
- Project model edges into a sketch as linked geometry
- Slice Graphics cuts the model away so you can see sketches on hidden planes
Sheet metal that keeps its flat pattern
Sketch a base shape and flange it, then add edge flanges, hems, folds, cuts and holes. The flat pattern is always available, with its bend lines and bend table.
- Sheet rules set thickness, bend radius, K-factor and reliefs
- Holes become cut-outs in the flat pattern
- Export DXF layers and a CSV bend table
Assemblies with constraints, joints and welds
Place saved parts. The first is grounded and new ones are set down beside existing parts. Position them exactly with constraints, define motion with joints, and join them with welds.
- Mate, Flush, Angle, Tangent and Insert constraints
- Motion studies and collision contact
- Fillet and groove welds that follow the parts
2D drawings from your parts and assemblies
Lay out sheets with base, projected, section and detail views. Add dimensions, GD&T, welding symbols, a parts list and balloons, then export to PDF or DXF.
- Welding symbols read their size and length from the weld they point at
- Each view has its own scale, hidden edges and centre marks
- First- or third-angle projection, A4 to A0 and ANSI sheets
Your first part in five steps
- 1
New Part
On the Home page choose New Part, or open a recent file.
- 2
New Sketch
Pick the XY, XZ or YZ plane, or a flat face of the model.
- 3
Draw and dimension
Use Line L, Rectangle, Circle and Arc, then Dimension D.
- 4
Extrude or Revolve
Click Finish Sketch and turn the profile into a solid.
- 5
Save
Press Ctrl+S. A recovery copy is kept while you work.
Handy shortcuts
Works with the formats you already use
Open STEP, IGES, STL and 3MF files, and export to STEP, STL, 3MF, PDF and DXF.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Thin Cad cost?
Standard is $29 a month, Professional is $59 a month, and both are cheaper billed yearly. Enterprise pricing depends on the number of seats. Every plan starts with a 30-day free trial with all features.
What happens when my trial ends?
Choose a plan to keep working. If you don't, your designs stay on your computer and you can still open and view them, but editing and export are locked until you subscribe.
Can I switch plans or cancel?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time and the difference is prorated. Cancel whenever you like, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
What can I design with it?
Solid parts, sheet metal parts with flat patterns, assemblies with constraints, joints and welds, and 2D drawings of any of them with dimensions, GD&T, parts lists and balloons.
Can I open files from other CAD tools?
Insert brings in STEP, IGES, STL and 3MF. File ▸ Export writes STEP, STL, 3MF and others. Drawings export to PDF and DXF, and sheet metal flat patterns export to DXF.
What happens if Thin Cad closes unexpectedly?
Thin Cad saves a recovery copy while you work and offers to recover the design the next time it starts. Help ▸ Crash Reports shows what happened, including the steps to reproduce it.
The window doesn't open. What should I try?
Update your graphics driver first. Over Remote Desktop or in a virtual machine, turn on 3D acceleration. You can also start Thin Cad once with --safe-mode, or rename the settings folder.
What do I need to use the AI feature?
The desktop app, plus an AI agent or model you already use. It can be a coding agent on your own account, such as Claude Code or Codex, or a model behind an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, such as Ollama on your computer. Everything the AI changes in answer to one message is a single undo step.
Which languages are available?
English, Japanese and Chinese. Change it under Settings, along with units, theme, autosave interval and keyboard shortcuts.
